Recently, there has been quite some controversy regarding Ubuntu’s decision of where to put the minimize, maximize, close, … buttons in their upcoming LTS version, Lucid Lynx. Completely ignoring any productivity enhancing ideas behind it, I do not see what the fuss is all about. After all, this is Linux. If you want something changed, just do it! As with almost everything, there is a quick and easy tweak for a well known “problem”.

Simply press ALT+F2 and type

gconf-editor

This will open the Configuration Editor, now navigate to

/apps/metacity/general

Once there, change the value for button_layout to make it fit your needs. See the “Long description” in the Configuration Editor for more details about it.
