Window Control Button Positioning in Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx)
Recently, there has been quite some controversy regarding Ubuntu’s decision of where to put the minimize, maximize, close, … buttons in their upcoming LTS version, Lucid Lynx. Completely ignoring any productivity enhancing ideas behind it, I do not see what the fuss is all about. After all, this is Linux. If you want something changed, just do it! As with almost everything, there is a quick and easy tweak for a well known “problem”.
Simply press ALT+F2 and type
gconf-editor
This will open the Configuration Editor, now navigate to
/apps/metacity/general
Once there, change the value for button_layout
to make it fit your needs. See
the “Long description” in the Configuration Editor for more details about it.
